Clear, pale lemon in colour.
Refreshing as a gentle spring breeze, the aroma is sprinkled with rose petal and reminiscent of a field of wildflowers after fresh rain.
The palate combines heritage Okanagan orchard fruit (apple, pear) with more tropical, citrusy flavours. It opens juicy-sweet but finishes on a dry, lean, almost pithy lemon- or grapefruit-like finish with plenty of refreshing acidity.
A versatile wine with texture and layers of complexity, A Noble Blend is suited to food everywhere, anywhere, all at once even.
JoieFarm makes A Noble Blend in the spirit of Edelzwicker, a traditional aromatic blend produced in France for centuries. This wine was created out of respect for old world traditions while learning how to make wine in a relatively young, new world winemaking region.
A Noble Blend is the first wine made at JoieFarm every vintage, after more than a year of careful planning and vineyard management. Sourced from vineyards in the Naramata Bench and Okanagan Valley, the grapes were picked and sorted by hand, then destemmed, crushed, and gently pressed before a 48-hour settling period. The juice was then racked off heavy lees and transferred into stainless steel tanks. Fermentation temperatures were kept below 17 degrees Celsius and select yeasts were chosen for individual varieties to help showcase the aromatic profile of each. Grapes from each vineyard and variety are vinified seperately; in 2022 there were 30 different ferments taking place!

"JoieFarm A Noble Blend Okanagan Valley is a gloriously aromatic, medium-bodied white that has become one of British Columbia's most beloved and iconic wines, spinning together Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, and Muscat from vineyards across the valley into a perfumed, exuberant tapestry of orange blossom, fresh lychee, rosewater, grapefruit pith, fresh tarragon, and a whisper of star anise on the finish. It is dry and beautifully balanced, with a lively, mouth-watering acidity that keeps all that aromatic generosity light on its feet and never cloying. Winemaker Richard Charnock, who joined JoieFarm after a celebrated tenure at Pentage Winery on the Skaha Bench, crafts this blend in the spirit of Edelzwicker, the traditional aromatic white blend of Alsace, a word that translates literally as "a noble blend" and gives the wine its name. A piece of delightful winery lore: the wine was originally created by founder Heidi Noble in tribute to the fact that many of the oldest plantings in the Okanagan Valley are Germanic varieties, making this wine as much a celebration of the valley's viticultural history as it is of its terroir. Serve it well chilled with a fragrant Thai green curry and jasmine rice, where the wine's floral lift and gentle spice will echo the aromatics of the dish beautifully, or alongside a platter of crispy salt-and-pepper calamari with a squeeze of lime for a casual, crowd-pleasing pairing. Drink it young and lively over the next one to two years. Food pairings: Thai green curry with jasmine rice, crispy salt-and-pepper calamari with lime, Vietnamese-style lemongrass chicken salad."

"This off-dry Alsatian-inspired wine opens up with stunning aromas of jasmine blossom and lemon sherbet with flavours of pink guava and lychee to offset spicy sauces."
2023 -
"A modern day classic and a stalwart, consistent, near flagship wine from British Columbia. Alsatian in style with a rich assortment of aromatic (and a few sweeter) grapes blended together with real skill and an eye to the finished bottle. Vibrant, complex, and beautiful too on the nose in a way that just screams out summer, on the palate it’s just as good with layered fruit, floral tones, and excellent balance.”

"Noble Blend is a signature BC aromatic blend. Winemaker Richard Charnock, formerly of Pentâge, has moved from the Penticton Bench to take over the reins at JoieFarm. The 2023 crop was small, but the fruit is intense, mixing gewürztraminer, riesling, pinot auxerrois, pinot blanc and muscat, echoing the Edelzwicker Alsace style. Fresh, bright, and lively, the '23 has a lime spine with yellow fruits on the nose and palate. This is one of the driest examples at 2.92 g/L of residual sugar. It's a summer sipper, but with a slightly bitter finish, it can pair well with various bites." - Anthony Gismondi

"It's been a few years since tasting this delightfully fragrant blend of Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Auxerois, Pinot Blanc and Muscat and it doesn't disappoint. Notes of honey and stonefruits, lychee and rose oil, pink grapefruit and spice lead to a slick and off-dry palate. It's wonderfully balanced and has loads of character, purity and exotic flavours. The finish is zesty and mouthwatering."

"Aromatic, lemon, lime, apple and Asian pear aromas. Just off-dry on the palate, fruity and fresh, with pear, peach, lemon, and good length." - Rhys Pender, MW
2022 -
"A Noble Blend is one of the signature aromatic blends from the Okanagan, and the reins have now passed onto winemaker Richard Charnock, formerly of Pentâge. The 2022 vintage is a blend of gewürztraminer (50%), riesling (27%), pinot auxerrois (10%), pinot gris (8%), and pinot blanc (5%), sourced from up and down the Okanagan. This is bright and lively, perhaps less aromatic than previous vintages, with a combination of pear, grapefruit, and orange blossom. The balance is on point, drier than I remember (this is 6 g/L), with a crisp, refreshing, clean finish. It is well made in an appealing, fruit driven style."

"This is an aromatic blend of Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Auxerrois, and Muscat. It has aromas of spice, melon, apple and citrus which are echoed on the palate."
2018 -
"...Strewn with meadow herbs, tight pear, green apple, lime, grapefruit, fragrant elderflower and soap bubbles, the medium bodied palate is snappy with acidity, holding off the 4 g/l RS padding the mid. There's a slight watery core, which is beneficial when you're dealing with such intense grapes. The finish lingers with a dusting of ginger spice, warming the back of the palate. Youthful still, and blessedly under screw cap, so will keep this freshness for a while." - Treve Ring

"...in 2018 we see a much more interesting electric white wine that is better suited to food. It’s still based on the Alsace classic whites of Edelzwicker, or Gentil. I love the freshness, the lime leaf, pure pear and spice that sits on the nose of this gewürztraminer, riesling, pinot blanc, pinot auxerrois and muscat blend. As good as the aromatics are, the juicy palate with its drier sheen and peppery finish is just so much more fun. Less cloying, more dramatic. Perfect for mussels, clams or fish tacos." - Anthony Gismondi
2017 -
"...Lime leaf, pear blossom, fine tight spicing lead this year's incarnation, a blend of gewürztraminer, riesling, pinot auxerrios, pinot blanc, and muscat. Aromatically very pure, with rosewater, gingersnap, tight pear, lime peel, streaming along the palate, with a dusting of white pepper piquing the finish. Again, well done Noble." - Treve Ring
